Development of strengthening national resilience with "NTN Green Power Station"

NTN Corporation

Outline

"NTN Green Power Station," which NTN has developed, generates and stores electricity by using the clean energy of wind and solar light.  This product can be used not only in daily use but also in the event of a power failure as the electricity can be used for night lights and recharging mobile phones as well as for a power source of communication equipment.
NTN contributes to the development of disaster-resilient towns and to the enhancement of national resilience with this product.
In the energy sector of the "Sustainable Development Goals" (SDGs) advocated by the U.N., NTN will contribute to the development of a low-carbon society and a society where the energy is locally produced and locally consumed by supplying electricity from natural energy to people around the world who need electricity.

Description

The "NTN Green Power Station" that NTN has developed, stores electricity generated by the clean energy of wind and solar light in a storage battery built inside the pole.  Even in the event of a power failure due to disasters such as typhoons or earthquakes, this product can be used as an independent power source for night lights and recharging mobile phones.  The main unit has a wind resistance of up to 60m/s and a disaster-resistant structure that can withstand biggest level of earthquakes.  The wind turbine is a vertically-axial wind turbine using a proprietary blade shape. In addition to higher efficiency power generation, the turbine is superior in quietness and is suitable for installation in evacuation areas and other locations where many people gather.
We are currently working with Osaka University and other organizations to construct an "independent power supply communication network" using "NTN Green Power Station" in collaboration between industry, government, association and academia.  The establishment of an "Independent power supply communication network" realizes accurate and prompt transmission of information on the disaster situation in the affected area and needed support materials outside the blackout area.
In the event of a power failure due to a disaster, mobile phones and smartphones are useful to confirm the safety of families and obtain support information. However, in the event of a power failure, it is important to secure power to such devices and the network.  We will contribute to the “development of disaster-resilient towns” and “national resilience”, which is promoted by the Japanese government in cooperation with local governments, with “NTN Green Power Station” and an "Independent power supply communication network" to solve these problems.
In the energy sector of the "Sustainable Development Goals" (SDGs) advocated by the U.N., NTN will contribute to the development of a low-carbon society and a society where the energy is locally produced and locally consumed by supplying power from natural energy to people around the world who need electricity.

1. Goal of this challenge
・ Contribute to strengthening regional resilience and reducing carbon emissions by deploying
"NTN Green Power Station" in Japan and overseas.

2. Issues to be overcome to realize this challenge
・ In Japan: Construct communication network using an independent power supply in national resilience, and establish its business model.
・ Overseas: Establish networks, and business models and after-sales service systems according to local situation.

3. Concrete action
・ In Japan, we will move ahead with the development of the world's first  independent power supply in terms of national resilience.
・ Overseas, we will promote product publicity and install in demand areas in cooperation with trading companies, etc.

4. Effects of achieving this challenge
・ Cumulative sales of "NTN Green Power Station" 2 million units by 2050
・ CO2 savings of 350,000 tons due to the installation of NTN Green Power Station
