Promote the international standardization for dissemination and expansion of use renewables / Distributed Energy Resources (DER)

The Japan Electrical Manufacturers' Association

Outline

Electrical Machinery Industry is expected to contribution to resolution of various social issues including achievement of low carbon / decarbonization on a global power operation, and within Japan, enhancement of resilience for power facilities, updating of equipment thought aging degradation and introducing renewables as major power source, etc.

Under such circumstance, JEMA will actively promote the following activities in regard to structuring of platform to stably and efficiently use renewables / Distributed Energy Resources (DER).

(1) Promote the development of international and domestic standards to ensure reliability of renewable power generation systems
(2) Promote the development of international and domestic standards to ensure grid interconnection requirements of PSC
(3) Promotion of HEMS international standardization collaborating with Distributed Energy Resources Management System (DERMS)

Description

Promote the international standardization for dissemination and expansion of use renewables / DER

(1) Promote the development of international and domestic standards to ensure reliability of renewable power generation systems
JEMA has operate National Mirror Committee for many IEC TCs as a secretary (IEC TC82 - Solar photovoltaic energy systems [Chair: Japan], IEC TC88 - Wind energy generation systems and IEC TC105 - Fuel cell technologies, etc.)
・ Reflecting the Japan's knowledge into some requirements of  international standards development for safety and reliability of solar photovoltaic energy systems, and it promote the development of related domestic standards (Japanese Industrial Standards[JIS], JEMA standards[JEM]) at the same time.
・ Developing newly standards for leading to creation of new business markets including on vehicle and building material integration solar cell module by the Japan's initiative in cooperation with the testing / accreditation bodies.
・ Reflecting the requirements, etc. to make consistency with Japan's geographical and meteorological conditions (for installation) regards to develop international standards for  reliability of wind power systems including off-shore, and it promote the development of related domestic standards (Japanese Industrial Standards[JIS], JEMA standards[JEM]) at the same time.

(2) Promote the development of international and domestic standards to ensure grid interconnection requirements of Power Conditioning System (PSC)
・ Ensuring the grid interconnection requirements of the next-generation PCS to resolve the issues of its interconnection and promoting international standardization of such testing method (collaboration with IEC TC8 - System aspects of electrical energy supply and IEC TC82 - Solar photovoltaic energy systems, etc.).

(3) Promotion of HEMS international standardization collaborating with Distributed Energy Resources Management System (DERMS)
JEMA has review the issues of HEMS mainly with prioritized devices (smart meter, photovoltaic generation, storage battery, etc.) in consideration of arguments , etc. of ECHONET Lite WG/ Committee for Energy Resource Aggregation Business (ERAB) in  cooperation with the governmental policy regards to accomplish various services including demand adjustment of power by remote / integrated control of DER.
・ Promote the consideration of use case, reviewing technology specifications of DERMS (to make some rules for create newly service [system standards / criteria for certification])
・ Promoting future international standardization also in collaboration with relevant standard development organizations, etc. including KNX, SunSpec mainly with IEC TCs /JTC1 related to HEMS.
