For realizing a decarbonized society, promotion of social implementation of a renewable energy power generation system

Outline

With regard to power generation and storage and energy management systems (EMS) in power systems, we will support the “Challenge Zero” action and promote the spread and implementation of renewable energy, storage, and EMS technologies in society in future business activities.

- In the field of renewable energy (RE), we have been working on construction of solar power generation facilities and power generation business, and plan to promote biomass power generation business in the future. For the realization of a future "Decarbonized society", we will prepare an integration system of RE generation with storage batteries as a package, and a comprehensive application of the system and the future EMS equipped with AI / IoT. Through these measures, we will flexibly develop the social implementation of RE, such as adapting to distributed energy systems in addition to those for electric power companies, and the same time, facilitate the introduction of state of the art technology in each element and the system optimization aiming at the system cost reduction in the RE power generation field.

Description

For realizing a decarbonized society with the use of RE as the main power source, we will adopt the latest technologies on biomass power generation with controllable output and on solar power generation with variable output, and flexibly promote applications both to existing power grid systems and distributed energy systems, and will contribute to "net zero" in the power generation field.

- Biomass power generation can be expected to contribute to system stability in the power system. Also, from the viewpoint of energy security, considering the required amount of biomass for a main power source, it would be necessary to use one produced overseas as well as domestically produced. Since biomass fuel components vary greatly depending on production places, it is important to adopt boiler technology that can use one as fuel, and to establish fuel supply chains. In implementation of biomass power generation in society taking the important aspects into account, we will build a 24MW-class biomass power plant and plan sustainable commercialization while further strengthening cooperation with partners.

- In solar power generation, a storage battery will be introduced to improve the operability as a power generation system in EMS to help bridge the gap between output fluctuations due to weather, and power demand. Solar panels and storage batteries are fields where technology development is fast, and we will promote social implementation by installing and commercializing MW-class facilities using the advanced technology in cooperation with suppliers.

- Power system is now in transition and uncertain as a whole, however as the innovation in digital technologies progresses rapidly in every power system, we will incorporate them into the RE system to reduce the total system cost, and strive for social implementation of the RE system into alignment with social relevant external systems toward a decarbonized society.
