Publication of a list of Companies Taking on the Zero-Emission Challenge”

-Promoting ESG finance to companies making innovation efforts toward a decarbonized society-

Keidanren is strongly promoting its ambitious "Challenge Zero" project in cooperation with the Japanese government.

As part of this cooperation, Mr. Kajiyama, Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) launched a project of “Companies Taking on the Zero-Emission Challenge” at the today’s TCFD Summit 2020 hosted by the Japanese government. The project is to create a list of companies that are taking on the challenge to realize a decarbonized society through innovation, aiming to provide information that can be used by ESG investors and other financial institutions for ESG finance.

The list includes projects by METI linked to the government's “Environment Innovation Strategy” (formulated in January 2020) and 28 projects being implemented by the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO). The list shows the names of 320 companies which are both publicly listed and unlisted, and technological themes and project names that each company is working on. Of these companies, 75 companies have check marks indicating that they are participating in the Keidanren’s "Challenge Zero".

To achieve the net-zero goal of the Paris Agreement as early as possible, Keidanren will continue to promote the “Challenge Zero” in cooperation with the government by publicizing companies involved in innovation, while updating and enriching the list, with the aim of attracting ESG finance
